1.What are the benefits of joining MyLifeFuel.com?
Membership is free to MyLifeFuel. All members will be able to create a free profile on our website to find and interact with other members in planning and researching travel. (We are curently working on features that will allow users to blog about their trips, share photos, save friends, and generally have a higher level of interaction.) In addition, members will be able to apply to attend one of MyLifeFuel's travel tours.
Please note that by creating a traveler's profile on MyLifeFuel and subsequently applying to become a traveller on one of our trips, you are acknowledging that you are joining a private member-only organization that strives to offer its members fun group travel, however, cannot offer all its members the opportunity to travel on any given trip. By becoming a member of this site, you are acknowledging that admission onboard one of our travel tours is decided by MyLifeFuel management by way of a subjective process by which MyLifeFuel examines each applicants interests, background and geographic location in selecting a mix of travelers, we feel will enjoy each other's company and heighten each others' travel experience.
2. Why travel with MyLifeFuel?
There are thousands of tour operators offering you an impersonal, no-frills, rapid fire visit of selected vacation destinations. MyLifeFuel's mission is slightly different. While we care as much as much about showing you the sights, we care just as much about forging friendships with your fellow travelers who have joined us from all over the States.
To make this happen, MyLifeFuel has developed a process whereby we pre-screen trip attendees based on common backgrounds and interests, resulting in a group of travelers who can interact with each other prior to their trip, plan activities (bar crawls, shopping visits & group dinners) during the tour, and facilitate picture sharing and reunions afterwards.
To kick off your next adventure, MyLifeFuel welcomes all interested travelers to first apply for membership through our website. Simply fill out an application form (which involves answering a few questions about yourself and your interests) and select a trip you'd be interested in attending. One of our founders will call you directly to set up and interview and once accepted, your adventure begins!
3. Why do you only offer organized tours?
Like many of our readers, we've always shied away from organized tours, believing that an unscripted, independent travel is the richest sort. But in some places in the world, where road signs are non-existent or where the alphabet is a series of graceful curls, tours may be the most practical way of travel.
Additionally, when you've never set foot inside a country whose history spans thousands of years, tours offer a unique opportunity to focus your visit on places that millions of previous travelers have voted as worthwhile destinations. To this extent, MyLifeFuel has decided to focus on providing our customers organized tours with pre-scripted itineraries (factoring ample time for self exploration) that both allows us to offer our customers better prices and more time to enjoy the sights and each others company.
4. How does your itinerary differ from others?
We've invested innumerable hours doing travel research, spoken at length with our friends, and have taken volumes of copious notes in designing a trip that meets the needs of our target audience. Our friends (and we're guessing yourself) want a trip that focuses as much on the historic landmarks as it does on the modern culture, as well as allow for opportunities to interact with your fellow travellers. This means targeted tours to visit the key sites in each city, later morning departures to allow for a little bar hopping & partying at night, and a lot more free time to allow for you to customize your trip experience with your friends and fellow travellers we guarantee to meet on your international journey!
5. Do you have representatives attending every trip?
Yes!! In an effort to meet our customers, and in growing our business in exactly the direction our customers want, a MyLifeFuel founder/representative will attend every trip. In addition to taking care of the logistics (by assisting the seasoned tour guides we've hired for our journey) we're there to listen and to learn so that we can plan even better trips next time! We promise to introduce ourselves prior to each trip, and always have an open ear and open mind to your feedback and suggestion on how to improve our tours.
6. What does my money buy?
Our trip prices include the usuals; transportation between all the legs of the tour, hotel stays for the nights, and in some cases, and certain meals throughout the day. The following expenses are NOT included with the price of your trip:
1. Airfare to and from your travel destination (unless you purchase our competitively priced air package)
2. Travel insurance
3. Lunch and dinner during the travel dates
4. Tips for the tour guide
5. Entrance fees to SOME establishments.
6. Activities organized by MyLifeFuel staff (i.e. moped/bike rentals, shopping trips to the outlets, etc.)
For additional details on what is or isn't included in the prices, please review our terms and conditions.
7. What if I'm traveling alone or simply want a room for myself? Will it cost me more?
All prices are quoted for double occupancy (you'll be sharing the room with one other person). If you're traveling alone or would like to a room to yourself, you'll have to add the 'single supplement' price to the cost of one of our tour packages (regardless of whether you're purchasing airfare).
If you prefer, MyLifeFuel can try to match you up with another single traveler. We will attempt to give you and your potential roommate some information about each other (with your permission) and put you in touch with each other to decide on whether or not you'd like to be roommates. However, MyLifeFuel cannot guarantee that you can match you with a roommate. If none can be found, you will be responsible for paying the single supplement fare.
8. What types of travel documents and vaccinations are required given my destination city?
All passengers must be in possession of a valid passport. You are responsible for obtaining and paying for all visas and entry documents, and for meeting all health and other requirements and any documents required by laws, regulations, orders and/ or requirements of the countries to be visited. Multiple-entry visas are required for some vacations. Non-U.S. citizens must consult with appropriate consulates to determine if any visas are needed and are responsible for obtaining all visas and entry documents. All passengers traveling internationally are required to have a passport. Most countries require that the passport be valid for at least six (6) months beyond the conclusion of your trip.
MyLifeFuel will advise passengers of required documentation at time of reservation, however you may want to explore travel requirements prior to submitting your application as obtaining the correct documentation may require a length of time.
We recommend you consult our to the State Department and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which will inform you on specific entry requirements to your country of destination. Please ensure that you understand fully those requirements.
9. What types of hotel properties will we be staying in during the trip?
As a general rule, MyLifeFuel trips will offer our guests four to five star accommodations as discussed in the trip itinerary prepared for each tour. Four and five star designations are based on international and independent hotel grading systems which are beyond our control, and may vary by country and not be kept up to date. Please consider that properties may not meet the standards you are accustomed to in the USA. The places you will visit, do not enjoy our same standards of living.
In certain cities, MyLifeFuel may arrange for three star accommodations due to a particular hotels proximity to sights and activities. In all cases, we expect that you will find the accommodations to be fine, unique and comfortable properties; just don't expect the lavishness of some mass tourist destinations. Accommodations will be clearly discussed in the trip itinerary prepared for each tour.
Room assignments are based on "run of the House" by hotel management upon arrival. We reserve the right to substitute hotels of the same or superior category. Hotel services and amenities listed are subject to change without notice and at the discretion of the hotel. Hotel photos are representative only and do not necessarily depict the actual room in which guests will be accommodated.
10. How are special requests are handled?
MyLifeFuel will try to accommodate the needs of all our approved customers. However, there are limitations associated with what we can accomplish given our resources and the characteristics of the cities we will visit. Please clearly describe your special request at the time of booking (or by emailing us separately through our 'contact us' page) and we will try to get you an answer on your request as soon as possible.
11. Are there any airport and departure fees?
Most countries charge a departure fee in cash at the airport and some charge a cash entry fee. Our site tries to keep this information updated. Please plan on having extra cash to cover your departure fee at the airport on the day you are returning home. Since these are cash payments, our packages do not cover these entry and departure fees.
12. Why do you need a copy of our passport before you confirm air reservations?
The Department of Transportation (DOT) issued a mandate on this subject effective October 1998 and airlines will not board customers if the name on the airline ticket does not match the first and last name exactly as shown on the passport. To ensure accuracy and to guard against additional surcharges, MyLifeFuel requests a copy of your passport with purchase of your air reservations.
13. What forms of payment do you accept?
MyLifeFuel accepts major US credit cards as well as personal checks. As MyLifeFuel trips are priced at the lowest cost possible to our customers, we will be passing on all charges from the credit card company (typically 3% of the charge amount) back to our customers. Personal and cashier checks are exempt from this surcharge.
14. Why aren't all meals included on the hotel trips?
MyLifeFuel recognizes that tastes among our customers vary, and part of the enjoyment in exploring a particular area revolves around experiencing the local cuisine and atmosphere in smaller group settings. While we can recommend restaurants or areas to find good local cuisine, we allow our customers to arrive on their dining decision themselves. The prices of our trips are discounted to reflect the non-inclusion of meals.
15. Are the recommended arrival and departure times the only time I can go?
No, the set department and arrive times are designed to help our customers arrive at and depart from our trip to minimize the amount of time off our customers need to take for their vacation. However, all our customers are welcome to arrive earlier and/or stay later to further explore the region, provided however that you check with us at the required time. If you would like a quote on international airfare from our air department please complete our Airfare Request form.
16. Can I plan my own flight itinerary?
Absolutely! All our trips are priced with the land packages and air packages separate. While you need to purchase our land package to join in our adventures, you are welcome to make your own air arrangements or fly with us (since we have planned our trips months in advance, we have often secured rates lower than those found online).
If you would like a quote on international airfare from our air department please discuss your requirements in our travel request field at time of booking. Our prices are competitive as we are partnered with travel operators that purchases tickets in bulk from international airlines at prenegotiated rates.
